I don’t see a lot of graffiti when I’m hiking out “in the woods”. And, honestly, rarely even when I am hiking Phoenix-area desert parks. Most of the graffiti I find is under bridges, or the canals in Phoenix — which double as homeless highways.
One of the exceptions is the High Rock scenic lookout, along the Appalachian Trail in Maryland. Not pieces, but very colorful throwies.
While hiking the Shenipsit Trail in Connecticut I wondered what the difference was between the tags on the Soapstone Mountain observation deck and the blue painted trees indicating the trail’s direction.
I hike a lot on the Mogollon Rim, and one day I decided to drive the back road to Winslow. Along the way, in the middle of nowhere, I spotted an old water tank that had been copiously tagged.
Finally, this video wraps up with various pieces, tags, throwies and disses from Sandys Canyon, Interstate 17, Buffalo Park, Phoenix, Road America, Hagerstown, the Ice Age Trail, and here in beautiful Sunnyslope.
