The red haze
Drifted across
The – eyes – of – the Armadillo
Worms beneath her belly
Slithered
Fleas in her ear
Crickets in her heart
Lazily she swished her tail at the parasites
Leaches
On her ample flesh
Feasting
Vultures
Flesh masticated
By cannibals hungry
And mongrels lapping
Vain life sweat
Flowing into slimy gullets
Pups senseless clubbed.
The old bird eyed her and circled slowly towards hell.
The night surrounds us
Babies scream in the absent darkness.
The prophet’s death goes unnoticed.
