This was our second annual Fall trip to visit our son & his family live in Hagerstown, Maryland. What could be more fun than watching kids trick-or-treating? 👻🎃
Because our grandaughter Boo was at school, and everyone else at work, my wife & I needed something to occupy our time. She came up with this great idea: A fall color ride on the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad.
On the drive west along I-70 and I-68 to Cumberland, it became rather obvious we were a week past peak fall color. Oh well, there was still the choo choo to look forward to! 🚂
Rather than bury my nose in my camera, I let the scenery unfold as we headed out of Canal Place, through the Cumberland Narrows, Helmstetter’s Curve, 914 ft. Brush Tunnel, around the 270° hairpin in Woodcock Hollow, past Mount Savage, to the end of the line in Frostburg.
The highlight of the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad, was watching the locomotive changing directions on the turntable in Frostburg. I had no idea a railroad turntable was that fast! 😳
