I was barely mobile after my Pine Canyon Trail #26 hike two hours earlier, so rather than walking down to the bottom of the arch, my wife and I settled for enjoying the scenery from the observation point. As we watched more agile folks cavorting at the bottom, I thought-gamed what must have been going through Davey Gowan‘s mind when he was being chased by Apache’s and looking for a place to hide, because climbing down the brush choked slope from where Hwy 87 now is would have been even more difficult 130 years ago.
