It’s been almost four years since I hiked in Graham County, hiking Aravaipa Canyon end-to-end. I figured it was time make the 3+ hour trek out there, especially since it is the 4th of July weekend, and the Mogollon Rim is likely to be packed with liquored up campers & off roaders. So, I made plans to hike Mount Graham.
I barely made it past Apache Junction.
My wife and I had been sitting at a stop light on US-60, at the Superstition Mountain Dr. intersection in Gold Canyon, for 10 seconds, with a quarter mile of clear #1 lane behind us, when suddenly we were jolted forward. Coffee flew all over the cabin of my Acura RDX. 💥
It was much, much more than a mere tap, like would happen if someone had just started to accelerate for a green. (The light had turned green exactly 0.5 seconds before we were hit: I measured.)
Luckily, neither of us was injured. 🙏🏻
After all was said & done, I bailed on the hike, heading straight to my dealer to have my vehicle checked. Amazingly, what appeared to be no more than a ding, was just that: $0 in repairs. 🥳
(Ironically, the yard crew had to call their supervisor as the pickup was too damaged to drive.)
