- League Cup: Dudley Street Hooligans are the 2011 League Cup champions. Dudley reeled off six straight wins to close the season, including 32:23 in the final week over slumping Phoenix TS, the previous runaway leaders.
Dudley Street Hooligans
David ArndtAt the bottom of the 1st Division, Sehome Mariners and Glorydaze both won, but Glorydaze’s smaller margin of victory saw them drop a position to join Weirder Bremen in relegation to the middle tier.
In the 2nd Division, Alewive FC are champions, having jobbed JC Comets 50:23. Third place Juice10 defeated second place Turboduck SC, but failed to move into the other promotion spot, due to Alewive FC gaining at least a draw. At the other end of the order, JC Comets and Kingsbridge were relegated. For JC Comets, with consecutive demotions, it was a year long drop from the top tier to the bottom.
In the 3rd Division, Aviators, managed by Hal Jones, are champions. Turkibus (18/+50) edged Van der Sara FC (18/+33) for the other promotion spot despite losing their final match. Finishing bottom of the entire league were Pioneer Detasselers, who will replace MurphDogs in the conference. (MurphDogs management situation has led to a delay in their obtaining a license for 2012.)
- Alewive FC (50 points / 12th place) placed in the MFLS Weekly Top 25.

Brew City News (11-Oct-2011 : Week 30)
- League Cup: No matches this week due to MLS dicking with the schedule. Final round of matches is this upcoming week.
- No Brew City side placed in the MFLS Weekly Top 25. (The top 12 were all abandoned teams.)
Brew City News (6-Oct-2011 : Week 29)
- Per the original MLS schedule, this upcoming week was supposed to be a bye for all MLS teams. Thus when I made out the cup competition schedule, the BCFA week 30 was the MLS — not MFLS — week 30, with a full slate of 11 matches. Somehow, along the way, this upcoming weekend had three matches crammed into it. It would hardly be fair to decide our league on the basis of some cobbled together, half ass, schedule. Therefore, this weekend’s matches will not count in the league standings, which will be decided by what is now MFLS week 32.
- League Cup: In the 1st Division, former runaway leaders Phoenix TS have pissed away their lead to such an extent that they now lie third in the table. Making matters worse, they lost to the bottom side, Glorydaze, 19:6. The standings are now Dudley Street Hooligans (18/+67), mid-season replacement Redneck SC (18/+59) and Phoenix TS (18/+40). As predicted last week, the final week’s meeting between Phoenix TS and Dudley Street Hooligans will likely determine the title. At the bottom of the table, Glorydaze (6/-43), Sehome Mariners (6/-66) and Weirder Bremen (6/-93) are the relegation candidates. In the 2nd Division, the top five went 1-1-3 against the bottom five, tightening up the middle and bottom of the order, but giving a bit of breather room to the leaders, already promoted Turboduck SC (18/+72) and Alewive FC (16/+25). The teams in spots 3 to 9 could either be promoted or demoted. #10 Kingsbridge (6/-11) is relegated. In the 3rd Division, the promotion candidates are Aviators (18/+68), Turkibus (18/+51) and Van der Sara FC (15/+26). None of the three play each other in week 30. Pioneer Detasselers, despite already being confirmed as the league’s lowest side, defeated Appleton Aarhus 20:13 to score their first points of the season.
- No Brew City side placed in the MFLS Weekly Top 25.
Brew City News (27-Sep-2011 : Week 28)
- League Cup: In the 1st Division, Phoenix TS were reminded in emphatic fashion they still have some work ahead of them in their march to the title, being rogered by Redneck SC 50:14. Phoenix TS (18/+53) are followed by Dudley Street Hooligans (15/+50) and mid-season recruit Redneck SC (15/+40). With two weeks to go, the final week’s meeting between Phoenix TS and Dudley Street Hooligans will likely determine the title. The 2nd Division featured the Blowout of the Week, Turboduck SC trouncing In off the post 67:10. Turboduck SC (15/+70) are now top, followed by Alewive FC (15/+25) and Juice10 (13/+35).The 3rd Division featured the majority of the week’s top scores, with six teams finishing in the top ten. Van der Sara FC led the charge, edging hard luck Surreywood Rangers in the Match of the Week, 50:47. Final session leading scorers Aviators (15/+65) are on top by a hair, followed by the team managed by his son, Turkibus (15/+41), Van der Sara FC (15/+29) and previous leaders Geckos (12/+50). Bottom of the league Pioneer Detasselers are pointless despite outscoring seven other league sides.
- Turboduck SC (67 points / 11th place) placed in the MFLS Weekly Top 25.
Brew City News (20-Sep-2011 : Week 27)
- League Cup: In the 1st Division, with three matches left in the season, perfect Phoenix TS hold a two game lead on four rivals, their nearest challenger being Top Shelf. At this point Phoenix TS could run out their youth team and probably still become champions. In the 2nd Division, the top five teams were all involved in narrow decisions, former leaders Mike’s Ninja Turtles losing 21:26 to Dumpley Street Morons, who are the new leaders of four teams on 12 points. In the 3rd Division, the picture is no clearer, as leaders Geckos are also only one of four teams on twelve points.
- Phoenix TS (45 points / 12th place) placed in the MFLS Weekly Top 25.
Brew City News (14-Sep-2011 : Week 26)
- League Cup: In the 1st Division, Phoenix TS continued their march to the title, winning their fifth straight 29:14 over Sehome Mariners. Dynamo Silver Spring took a big step to avoiding relegation, squeeking by Glorydaze 35:34. In the 2nd Division, Alewvive FC put the stones to former leaders In off the post 41:16. Rudderless Duck Butter Bandits were hammered as expected, 5:31 by Dumpley Street Morons. But their wailing was nothing compared to the two handed out in the 3rd Division: Geckos 65:29 Surreywood Rangers and Aviators 66:24 Appleton Aarhus.
- Aviators (66 points / 1st place) and Geckos (65/2nd) placed in the MFLS Weekly Top 25.
Brew City News (30-Aug-2011 : Week 25)
- League Cup: The 1st Division had the three lowest scoring sides in the entire league, averaging only 5.2 ‘goals’ per team. Surging Phoenix TS had the division high score of 17, and continue to lead. Of course, abandoned teams Duck Butter Bandits (25/1st) and MurphDogs (16/6th) had the high scores. In the 2nd Division, six teams are level on six points in mid-pack, including three on identical -3 ‘goal’ difference. In off the post (9/+14) and Juice10 (7/+5) are the best of a so far mediocre bunch. In the 3rd Division, the situation is nearly as bland, with five teams on six points. Geckos (9/+26) and Van der Sara FC (9/+16) are in the promotion spots.
- No Brew City side placed in the MFLS Weekly Top 25.
- There will be no league matches next week, due to only two MLS matches.
Brew City News (23-Aug-2011 : Week 24)
- League Cup: Phoenix TS continued to steamroll the 1st Division, defeating Arrows S.C. 40:28. Phoenix TS remain in first on ‘goal’ difference +42 to +23 over Cánicas A.C. Glorydaze have so far found none, being at the bottom, on zero points, after finishing P5 and P6 the first two sessions of the year. In the 2nd Division, five teams are co-top on six points, led by Mike’s Ninja Turtles, whose +35 ‘goal’ difference is due to their opponents having scored a league-low 34 ‘goals’. At the bottom, unfortunate Turboduck SC lost the battle of the quackers, 22:24 to rudderless Duck Butter Bandits. In the 3rd Division, Geckos moved top on a perfect nine points, thanx to a 31:16 victory over Clockwork Orange. Previously pointless Appleton Aarhus were the week’s high scorers, doubling up Grass Pitch Please, 54:27.
- Appleton Aarhus (54 points / 2nd place) and Top Shelf (44/17th) placed in the MFLS Weekly Top 25. It is Top Shelf’s fourth such appearance this season. They are followed by Mike’s Ninja Turtles, Dudley Street Hooligans and Phoenix TS on three entries apiece.
Brew City News (17-Aug-2011 : Week 23)
- League Cup: In the 1st Division, Phoenix TS continued its march from the 3rd Division to the league title, defeating Summer champion Dynamo Silver Spring 30:27. In the week’s other high scoring match, Top Shelf edged Dudley Street Hooligans 33:29. In an interesting coincidence, three teams scored the exact same number of goals as last week Phoenix TS (30), Dudley Street Hooligans (29) and Redneck SC (32). On zero points, Dynamo Silver Spring hover just above the relegation zone. In the 2nd Division, Alewive FC are on top after defeating Juice10 26:14. In off the post are second, despite scoring only 9 and 11 ‘goals’ in the first two matches of the session. Of the six teams on a middle-of-the-road three points, five have a negative ‘goal’ difference. At the top of the 3rd Division, Aviators and Geckos are level on points (6) and ‘goal’ diff (+13), with Aviators having the slight edge on ‘goals’ scored, 52 to 49.
- Top Shelf (33 points / 11th place), Redneck SC (32/18th) and Arrows S.C. (32/18th) placed in the MFLS Weekly Top 25.
Brew City News (9-Aug-2011 : Week 22)
- League Cup: In the 1st Division, five of the Summer’s top six lost, the exception being Cánicas A.C., which won 6:-1. Two promoted teams are in the top spots, Phoenix TS (as predicted) and Dudley Street Hooligans. In the 2nd Division, Mike’s Ninja Turtles are in first place after enjoying the Blowout of the Week, 23:-6 at the expense of JC Comets. In the 3rd Division, new boys Turkibus got a jarring wake up call, losing 6:25 to Clockwork Orange. Turkibus must now realize how tough Brew City is, top to bottom.

Alewive FC and JC Comets are relegated. The story was different in the 2nd Division where FA Cup champion Phoenix TS won in style, putting Duck Butter Bandits to the sword, 52:10. (15/+39), who jump over Dudley Street Hooligans (15/+28) into first place. 21 of 30 league teams scored the same number of ‘goals’ as another team, but it lead to only two draws, both in the 3rd Division, Phoenix TS 27:27 Grass Pitch Please and Van der Sara FC 17:17 Geckos. New leaders Duck Butter Bandits (18/+47) are the league’s only perfect team, while cellar dwellers Murphdogs (0/-82) are the only team without a point.
- FA Cup: The second of three group rounds was held. In all seven groups, the leader is on six points, the middle two teams are on three points, and the last place team is on zero points, so every team still has a chance of making the knockout round. The current leaders are Top Shelf (A), Weirder Bremen (B), Mike’s Ninja Turtles (C), JC Comets (D), Dumpley Street Morons (E), Glorydaze (F) and Duck Butter Bandits (G).

- League Cup: In the 1st Division, Glorydaze stayed top by defeating Redneck SC 28:16. Glorydaze have 12 points, followed by three teams on nine points. (Amazingly, two of those have negative ‘goal’ difference.) In the 2nd Division, Clockwork Orange also stayed top, defeating Shaolin Mystigods 25:11. Clockwork Orange (12/+43) are closely followed by Dudley Street Hooligans (12/+27) and Arrows S.C. (12/+17). Clockwork Orange and Arrows S.C. have a show down this upcoming weekend. In the 3rd Division, the haves continued to have, while the have nots continued not to have. Two perfect teams are up in Phoenix TS (15/+86) and Duck Butter Bandits (15/+38), while Aviators (12/+85) have a very healthy ‘goal’ difference as well. The four teams at the bottom are on a collective -215 ‘goal’ difference. Overall, throughout the league, nine teams are averaging a paltry 12 ‘goals’ or fewer per match, with Appleton Aarhus (5.6) only slightly ahead of Grass Pitch Please (5.4). Time to pick it up!

The early group leaders: Phoenix TS (A), Aviators (B), Mike’s Ninja Turtles (C), JC Comets (D), Dumpley Street Morons (E), Glorydaze (F) and In off the post (G).
- No Brew City side placed in the MFLS Weekly Top 25, though the top four teams have made a combined one roster change all season.
- Mug’O’Suds Invitational: The new for 2011 three round group phase concluded. Yet, as before, the top two teams in each group, plus the four best third place teams, advance. Should be more variance in the quality of the advancing teams, as it is easier for a lesser to team to maintain a hot streak. Let’s see how it turned out …In Group A, all four teams finished level on four points, with SDFC Macross (A1) and Arrows S.C. (A2) ahead on goal difference (the first tie break), while Redneck SC (A3) edged ahead of Seattle SC (A4) on the third tie break, head-to-head score. (The second tie break is goals scored, of which they were even at two.) Two teams turned a perfect nine points, Dynamo Silver Spring (B1) and Skillz (F1). The only team without a point was Dumpley Street Morons (D4). The most scored upon team was Alewive FC (F4), who nonetheless scored as many or more goals, three, than five teams which advanced. Three points were required to advance as a third place team, with Wolford Wolves (B3) and Hounds FC (F3) being the last chance qualifiers. Former champions Poplar Point United (E3, 2003) and unclean sheets (E4, 2008 and 2009) failed to advance. The full list of advancing teams:
