The 2nd Division saw the two closest matches, JC Comets 19:17 In_off_the_post and Arrows S.C. 12:11 Dudley Street Hooligans. Duck Butter Bandits (3/+15) are the early leaders. In the 3rd Division, Geckos (3/+22) are top thanx to the Blowout of the Week, shutting out MurphDogs 22:0.
  • Eight AWOL teams were in the top ten of the MFLS Weekly Top 25. Brew City did not make an appearance.

Brew City News (24-Aug-2010 : Week 21)

  • League Cup:  Dynamo Silver Spring  are the Summer Champions. Kingsbridge and Phoenix TS are relegated. In the 2nd Division, Cánicas A.C. and Clockwork Orange are promoted. Cánicas finished the season on a perfect 27 points, the first team to do so since Brew City expanded for the 2009 season. Grass Pitch Please and, continuing to free fall, Aviators are relegated. In the 3rd Division, Alewive FC and Shaolin Mystigods are promoted. Shaolin (18/+56) leap-frogged Surreywood Rangers (18/+34) by defeating Geckos 19:10, while Surreywood lost 16:21 to Van Der Sara FC. Real Hillsdale salvaged some pride before going down, defeating Turboduck SC 24:7.
  • Five AWOL teams led the MFLS Weekly Top 25. Brew City did not make an appearance.

Brew City News (17-Aug-2010 : Week 20)

  • League Cup: In the 1st Division, Dynamo Silver Spring (24 points / +150 'goal' diff) are Summer champions with a week to go. The bottom three sides all lost. Old Peculiar FC (9/-14) are barely ahead of Mikes Ninja Turtles (9/-69), Phoenix TS (6/-19) and Kingsbridge (6/-57). Mikes and Phoenix meet in the final week of the session. In the 2nd Division, Cánicas A.C. (24/+87) and Clockwork Orange (21/+33) are both promoted. They fight over first this week. At the bottom, Grass Pitch Please (3/-55) are relegated. Duck Butter Bandits (9/-10), JC Comets (9/-20) and -- having their worst season in ages -- Aviators (6/-54) are the other candidates for the drop. In the 3rd Division, Alewive FC (21/+71) are promoted, while Surreywood Rangers (18/+39) lead three teams on 15 points. At the bottom, pointless Real Hillsdale (0/-65) are dropping to non-league. They will be replaced by Appleton Aarhus in the Fall session.
  • Shaolin Mystigods (54 points / 1st place), Dynamo Silver Spring (51/3), Turboduck SC (43/15) and Dudley Street Hooligans (43/15) placed in the MFLS Weekly Top 25. It was Brew City's best showing of the season, by far.

Brew City News (10-Aug-2010 : Week 19)

  • Mug'O'Suds Invitational:  SDFC Macross  are champions, having defeated cincinnati contomati in exratime. After the game ended 2:2, the first tie-break is least goals given up by keepers, with SDFC Macross having Pickens (0) to Hesmer (1) for cincinnati contomati.

  • League Cup: In the 1st Division, Dynamo Silver Spring (21 points / +124 'goal' diff) have all but locked up the Summer title, as second place Darcian Greywacke (15/+18) are well back. Of the remaining eight teams, all could yet be relegated. In the 2nd Division, perfect Cánicas A.C. (21/+69) are promoted. Clockwork Orange (18/+24) will almost certainly join them, as they have a six point lead over third place. At the bottom, Grass Pitch Please (3/-37) and Aviators (3/-62) need to win both matches, and hope a team above them loses both remaining matches, to avoid the drop. In the 3rd Division, six teams are still in the promotion hunt, lead by Alewive FC (18/+56). At the bottom, Real Hillsdale (0/-52) are all but relegated as they are a good distance behind second last Geckos (6/-16).
  • No Brew City side placed in the MFLS Weekly Top 25 -- though every one of the top 10 teams has failed to make a move in at least two months.

Brew City News (3-Aug-2010 : Week 18)

  • FA Cup: In the second leg of the first semifinal, Cánicas A.C. lost 13:14 to Landycake United, but advanced on aggregate, 38:27. Their opponent in the final will be Dynamo Silver Spring, who won both legs to advance 48:27 over Surreywood Rangers. Despite their many honors, Dynamo Silver Spring have never appeared in the FA Cup final, let alone won it. Cánicas A.C. were last year's losing finalist.
  • League Cup: In the 1st Division, #1 Dynamo Silver Spring pounded #2 Darcian Greywacke 23:5. The #3-5 sides also lost, so Darcian Greywacke hold on to their spot, albeit well back. Dynamo Silver Spring have a 'goal' difference (+106) greater than the number of goals scored by nine league sides. In the 2nd Division, Cánicas A.C. (18 points / +47 'goal' diff) are still undefeated, while former undefeated contender Clockwork Orange (15/+20) are not far behind. In the 3rd Division, leaders Alewive FC (15/+53) have the league's second best 'goal' diff. At the bottom, Real Hillsdale (0/-46) are all but relegated with the three teams above them all on six points.

Brew City News (27-Jul-2010 : Week 17)

  • Mug'O'Suds Invitational: In the first leg of the first semifinal, #11 seed Phoenix TS lost 1:3 to #5 seed SDFC Macross. In the other semifinal, featuring two unseeded Spanish sides, cincinnati contomati defeated Spanish Girls 2:1.

  • League Cup: In the 1st Division, Dynamo Silver Spring (15 points / +88 'goal' diff) remain top, and are by far the league's top scorer in the Summer session. In the 2nd Division, Cánicas A.C. remain perfect (15/+44). Meanwhile, JC Comets' ruined Clockwork Orange's hopes of a final week battle of the perfect teams, winning 27:11. In the 3rd Division, Alewive FC (12/+40) moved top by defeating bottom dwelling Real Hillsdale 17:7. Pioneer Detasselers (12/+32) are just behind.
  • Old Peculiar (39 points / 6th place) placed in the MFLS Weekly Top 25.

Brew City News (20-Jul-2010 : Week 16)

  • Mug'O'Suds Invitational: And then there were four. Phoenix TS advance on away goals 2:1 after drawing 1:1 at home, and 2:2 on the road, to Sasha Juniors. Their semifinal opponent will be SDFC Macross, who ended the two-year Mug'O'Suds championship reign of unclean sheets. The former champions did not go down without a fight, drawing the second leg 3:3, but falling 3:5 on aggregate. The first team in the other semifinal is cincinnati contomati, who won both legs to advance 3:1 over Surreywood Rangers. Making the other semifinal an all-Spain affair, Spanish Girls overcame a first leg deficit to advance on away goals 2:1 over Ladanday Rovers, after the series ended even at twos.
  • FA Cup: The quarterfinals concluded. Cánicas A.C. won both matches over Arrows S.C. to advance 33:18. Their semifinal opponent will be Landycake United, who advanced 35:16 over MFLS #1 Weirder Bremen, after drawing the first leg at zeroes. The first team in the other semifinal is Surreywood Rangers, who won the second leg 9:2 to edge JC Comets 12:11. The final team in the semifinals is Dynamo Silver Spring, who put a two-leg tonking on Real Hillsdale, advancing 43:7. So, the top half of the semis will be new skool, while the bottom half will be Old School.
  • League Cup: In the 1st Division, perfect Dynamo Silver Spring (12 points / +77 'goals') are top, but there are tight races all through the order. In the 2nd Division, there were two one-point matches: Clockwork Orange 18:17 Arrows S.C. and Grass Pitch Please 16:17 Sehome Mariners. Cánicas A.C. (12/+39) are top, followed by Clockwork Orange (12/+21). The 3rd Division was the opposite, an all-blowout affair with 13, 15, 18, 19 and 20-point margins of victory. Shaolin Mystigods (9/+35), lead a group of four nine-point teams.
  • Landycake United (35 points / 12th place), currently 8th overall, placed in the MFLS Weekly Top 25.

Brew City News (13-Jul-2010 : Week 15)

  • Mug'O'Suds Invitational: Results for the first leg of the quarterfinals are Phoenix TS 1:1 Sasha Juniors, SDFC Macross 2:0 unclean sheets, cincinnati contomati 1:0 Surreywood Rangers and Spanish Girls 0:1 Ladanday Rovers. Most of the goals coming through Ferreira, as no one could have suspected Braun would score twice in a season, let alone a game.
  • FA Cup: The first leg of the quarterfinals saw a total of only 36 'goals' scored amongst the eight teams: Arrows S.C. 1:13 Cánicas A.C., Weirder Bremen 0:0 Landycake United, Surreywood Rangers 3:9 JC Comets and Dynamo Silver Spring 11:-1 Real Hillsdale.
  • League Cup: In the 1st Division, top side Dynamo Silver Spring defeated second place Weirder Bremen 11:0. Replacing Weirder Bremen in the runneruip spot are Top Shelf, who defeated Phoenix TS 7:0. In the 2nd Division, both Cánicas A.C. (9 points / +33 'goal' diff) and Clockwork Orange (9/+20) remain perfect, but do not meet each other until the final week of the summer session. Will it be a battle of the unbeatens? In the 3rd Division, a whopping 70% of the teams are on six points, led -- barely -- by Shaolin Mystigods (9/+17).
  • No Brew City side placed in the MFLS Weekly Top 25.

Brew City News (7-Jul-2010 : Week 14)

  • Mug'O'Suds Invitational: The first knockout round concluded. Phoenix TS advance 6:4 over Seattle SC. Sasha Juniors advance 9:5 over Alpine Dream. Surreywood Rangers advance 6:4 over Real New Britski after another 3:3 draw. Spanish Girls edged Weirder Bremen 6:5 after the round's third 3:3 draw. (Lots of Buddle and Saborio front lines this week.) Ladanday Rovers lost the second leg, but advance anyway, defeating Mikes Ninja Turtles 7:5. The quarterfinals are next.
  • FA Cup: Arrows S.C. won both legs to advance 77:50 over Old Peculiar FC. Their quarterfinal opponent will be Cánicas A.C., who came back from a first leg deficit to defeat Mikes Ninja Turtles 73:68. Weirder Bremen twice mowed Grass Pitch Please, advancing 85:33. Their round-of-eight opponent will be Landycake United, who defeated In_off_the_post 68:57. In the bottom half of the bracket, Surreywood Rangers twice doubled Duck Butter Bandits to advance 85:37. Their next opponent will be JC Comets, who won two narrow contests to advance 62:57 over Darcian Greywacke. The first team in the final quarterfinal is Dynamo Silver Spring, who defeated Dudley Street Hooligans 87:70. Their opponent will be Real Hillsdale who lost their second leg, but advanced anyway, edging Aviators 59:56.
  • League Cup: After two weeks of the Summer Championship, Dynamo Silver Spring (6 points / +46 'goal' diff) lead the 1st Division over Weirder Bremen (6/+23) and Mikes Ninja Turtles (6/+19). In the 2nd Division, Arrows S.C. (6/+48) are top, followed by Cánicas A.C. (6/+25) and Clockwork Orange (6/+10). • Arrows S.C. (59 points / 13th place) and Shaolin Mystigods (56/24) placed in the MFLS Weekly Top 25.

Brew City News (12-May-2010 : Week 7)

  • Mug'O'Suds Invitational: Despite all the goals scored in MLS this week -- Chad Barrett with a brace!? -- only Weirder Bremen managed to get more than three, defeating Mikes Ninja Turtles 4:1 in Group E. With one week of group play remaining, the following teams are through to the knockout rounds: Spanish Girls (A), unclean sheets (A), Sasha Juniors (C), SDFC Macross (D), Weirder Bremen (E) and Surreywood Rangers (F). The top two teams in each group, plus the four best third place teams advance.

  • Mug'O'Suds Invitational: Five of twelve matches ended in draws, highlighted by the 4:4s put up by Dynamo Kyiv YCK and Alewive FC, and Hotspur and Sasha Juniors. Weirder Bremen edged Stonebury United 4:3, thanx to unusual insight in picking up San Jose's defender Beitashour. After three of six group rounds, the leaders are Spanish Girls (A), Alewive FC (B), Hotspur (C), SDFC Macross (D), Weirder Bremen (E) and cincinnati contomati (F).
  • FA Cup: After three of six rounds, there are four perfect teams, and one without a point. In_off_the_post (9 points / +15 'goal' diff) leads Group A, Weirder Bremen (9/+44) leads Group D, Mikes Ninja Turtles (9/+50) leads Group E and Darcian Greywacke (9/+14) lead Group F. The other group leaders are Aviators (B), MurphDogs (C) and Cánicas A.C. (G). The perfectly awful team is Sehome Mariners (0/-53) in Group B.
  • League Cup: The 1st Division had both the game of the week and the blowout of the week. The game of the week featured pointless Cánicas A.C. hosting mid-table Top Shelf. Cánicas A.C. are no longer pointless, must surely be disappointed with the 27:27 result. The blowout of the week saw the week's third high scorer stomp a mud hole in the week's third low scorer, Clockwork Orange 24:-4 Old Peculiar FC. Landycake United (12 points / +48 'goal' diff) lead Dynamo Silver Spring (12/+22). The 2nd Division is shaping up to be a case of the haves and have-nots. Kingsbridge (12/+44) have a razor-thin lead over Weirder Bremen (12/+43). They are followed by five teams on nine points—which means the bottom three sides, on a collective six points, must have already switched their sites from promotion to avoiding relegation. In the 3rd Division, previously perfect Sehome Mariners were embarassing, losing -8:5 to Alewive FC, who are now top.
  • No Brew City side placed in the MFLS Weekly Top 25.

Brew City News (21-Apr-2010 : Week 4)

  • Mug'O'Suds Invitational: In Group D, SDFC Macross had the week's high score, defeating Phoenix TS 6:2. After two weeks, the group leaders are Spanish Girls (A), Alewive FC (B) ... still! ... Hotspur (C), SDFC Macross (D), Stonebury United (E) and cincinnati contomati (F).
  • FA Cup: In Group F, Darcian Greywacke won their second two-'goal' victory in two weeks, defeating Shaolin Mystigods 28:26. The two sides are now at opposite ends of the group, Darcian leading, Shaolin without a point. In Group G, the top two teams lost to the bottom pair, leaving all four even on three points. This upcoming will will shake things out further, as each team finishes its first pass through the other teams.
  • League Cup: After four weeks, the division leaders are all on a perfect 12 points. In the 1st Division, Landycake United (12 points / +53 'goal' diff) lead Mikes Ninja Turtles (9/+30). In the 2nd Division, Kingsbridge (12/+54) lead Weirder Bremen (9/+16). In the 3rd Division, Sehome Mariners (12/+40) lead Surreywood Rangers (12/+9).

Brew City News (14-Apr-2010 : Week 3)

  • Mug'O'Suds Invitational: After two playin rounds, the Mug group stages kicked off. The two biggest blowouts were both in Group F: Surreywood Rangers blanking Lowbrow Wanderers SC 4:0, and cincinnati contomati putting the stones to Old Peculiar FC, 6:1. (cincinnati were the only team to have a hat trick player in Le Toux; no team had Schilawski.) Early group leaders are Spanish Girls (A), Alewive FC (B) for the first time in living memory, Hotspur (C), SDFC Macross (D), Stonebury United (E) and cincinnati contomati (F).
  • FA Cup: The FA Cup kicked off in less than the expected exciting fashion as a number of matches stuggled to achieve positive cumulative scores, including Aviators 0:5 Pioneer Detasselers, Real Hillsdale -5:10 Cánicas A.C., Mikes Ninja Turtles 3:-1 Turboduck SC, and Weirder Bremen 0:-1 JC Comets. The early group leaders are Surreywood Rangers (A), Landycake United (B), Grass Pitch Please (C), Alewive FC (D), Old Peculiar FC (E), Van Der Sara FC (F) and Kingsbridge (G).
  • League Cup: The week's only decent game was in the 1st Division where Landycake United defeated Old Peculiar FC 21:16. Landycake United top the division on a perfect 9 points and a healthy +42 'goal' difference. In the 2nd Division, Kingsbridge have done even better, leading on 9/+53 after whacking Weirder Bremen 26:0. The 3rd Division was all about blow outs: Pioneer Detasselers 5:21 Van Der Sara FC, Surreywood Rangers 31:8 Juice10, and Dudley Street Hooligans 8:36 Appleton Aarhus. Sehome Mariners (9/+34) are top.
  • No Brew City team placed in the MFLS Weekly Top 25.

Brew City News (6-Apr-2010 : Week 2)

  • Nationwide Super Cup: Defending champions Clockwork Orange went into the second leg, trailing by not insurmountable nine points, 40:49 to 2005 champion Mohawks FC. But Mohawks FC put the hammer down, winning the second leg 39:14 to win the tie 88:54. That makes  Mohawks FC  the first champion of the new-format (prediction vs. fantasy champion) Nationwide Super Cup.

  • League Cup: In the 1st Division, Landycake United (6 points / +37 'goal' diff) lead Mikes Ninja Turtles (6/+25). Both are surprise packages: We'll see if they can sustain for the full nine weeks. In the 2nd Division, goal difference separates the top three teams: Kingsbridge (6/+27), Weirder Bremen (6/+17) and JC Comets (6/+7). The 3rd Division has the closest race, Sehome Mariners (6/+25) leading Dudley Street Hooligans (6/+24).
  • FA Cup: The FA Cup kicks off this upcoming week, and it will be without the 2004 champions, Top Shelf, who are only #29 in the Miklos Feher Cup unified fantasy table. Also eliminated are #30 Appleton Aarhus and #31 Clockwork Orange.
  • Grass Pitch Please (35 points / 10th place) and Landycake United (34/13) placed in the MFLS Weekly Top 25.

Brew City News (30-Mar-2010 : Week 1)

  • Between MLS's web site incompetence and me having other obligations, there is no narrative update this week.
  • In_off_the_post (63 points / 1st place) placed in the MFLS Weekly Top 25.

Brew City News (23-Mar-2010)
